The room is $950/mo., plus under $100/mo. to cover utilities (cable, Internet, electricity). About the building: Brand new as of four years ago, so no problems with bugs, mice, etc. Lots of young professionals living here. Doorman, elevator building, courtyard, gym and laundry on-site. The neighborhood (101st and 1st) isn't the loveliest, but I've never felt unsafe, and it is actually in Manhattan. A shuttle runs during the weekday mornings and evenings down to the 86th Street 4,5,6 stop. It's just three blocks to the cross-town M96. Otherwise, it's a 12-minute walk to the 96th Street 6 stop. About your bedroom: It's the smaller one, dimensions are about 12 feet by 11 feet. Past roommates (myself included) have gotten a queen/full-size bed and desk-type setup in there with room to spare. There's no closet (the apartment's a one-bedroom convertible), but there is an IKEA wardrobe and dresser that get the job done, and there's a small closet in the apartment entryway that would also be yours. About me: I'm a 28-year-old female who works in marketing at an accounting firm. I'm pretty easygoing, so there won't be any fighting over whose turn it is to buy toilet paper, or whether you use some of my milk for your coffee. I'm clean, cognizant of noise levels, and generally respectful of privacy. Ideally, I'd like to find someone who is up for a beer now and then, or at the very least, someone who doesn't mind discussing "American Idol" or "Top Chef" contestants with me. I do have a boyfriend who is in school out on Long Island, but in town most weekends, and he's more likely than not to be around during his break in January. But I do usually quarantine him in my room, and the flip side of that is there are weeknights and weekends when I head out to his place. Other things: Because the apartment is a one-bedroom convertible, there's a small living room and a kitchen, but not much else. The apartment is already furnished, so if you've got sofas and tables or other big pieces of furniture, that's not going to work -- but it'd obviously be your space too, so if you have some crazy chair or stone water fountain or a poster of Justin Timberlake that you need to have up in order to make things feel like home, we'd work it out. No pets, no smoking inside, the apartment's really not big enough for heavy traffic, although entertaining is totally fine by me if you can actually convince anyone to come this far uptown. Every other month or so I might have weekend visitors from home, and of course, I have no problem with people crashing on the couch. Electricity does add up in the summer (each room has an AC), but I've never paid more than $135/mo. in utilities, and 9 months out of the year I pay less than $100/mo. Next steps (if you're interested): The actual date of availability is a bit flexible, but I'd like to have someone in as close to Jan. 1 as possible. You need to be willing to pay first month's rent + security (totaling $1,900) upfront. The lease runs from now through August, and whether I stay on or not, you'd have the option of taking over the lease on Sept. 1.
